Now in an expanded format with new illustrations and stories, this edition contains an inspired collection of special tales recorded from the Old People who heard them as children and passed them down. Gather your family around you and read some of these stories aloud.

Ledger art grew out of the tradition of the Plains Indians, who drew pictures on buffalo hides to tell the stories and history of their people. After the buffalo were gone, these tribal people drew their picture stories in shopkeepers' ledger books. Cherokee artist Jesse Hummingbird lends his unique style to this ancient art form, to delight and interest young children. For children 2-4 years old.

Native Men of Courage

A traditional Native American tale. A boy is sent out to find an important person by his uncle, the village shaman. He journeys through the woods and seashore around his home and through the seasons of a full year in the course of his search. After conversations with Sister Eagle, Brother Whale, and others, Gray Wolf makes a wonderful discovery about the value of each and every one of us. As children follow Gray Wolf in his journey they learn about village life through the seasons among coastal peoples of the Pacific Northwest.

This beautiful hardcover book is richly illustrated by the distinctive full-color artwork of Gary Peterson, with 14 original drawings. Parents will enjoy reading this book aloud as much as young readers will enjoy following the story for themselves.

About the Author Bruce Swanson's thirty years of teaching history has often focused on the culture of First Nations. His practice of telling stories to his own four children laid the groundwork for Gray Wolf's Search. He makes his home in the Puget Sound region of Washington State.

Gary Peterson has painted the Pacific Northwest for almost fifty years. He is married to a Tlingit woman and was adopted by her Clan and given the name Walking Raven. His style combines the strengths of indigenous culture with a love of the natural world. Ages 5-9 years
